Default Few questions before I start.

I bought a black 2011 GT two months ago and I guess from sitting at the car lot it has spots where the paint has sand filling stuff in it. The paint itself is pretty scratch/ swirl free. If I start to clay will I make scratches from this process then requiring polishing before wax?

Can fine scratches/swirls be removed by hand with polishing compound? If not, what do I need without dropping the money on a v-speed buffer? If it matters I will be using CG products.
