I want to keep my stock exhaust on my '94' 5.0. But I want to "beef up" the sound as much as I can, working within the limitations of the stock exhaust. </P>

Does anyone have some ideas or thoughts on replacing the stock mufflers? If so lets hear them.</P>

THANKS!!!!!</P>

you can buy mufflers from any company that offers 'kits' for Mustangs.</P>

If you want to save even more cash and go the really cheap way but still sound AWESOME, you should try some manual cut-outs. They are a piping shaped somewhat like a 'Y" and have a plate held on by 3 wing nuts that you simply twist and remove to bypass your muffler system! You can buy 2 Flowtech cut-outs for $60 dollars I believe. If you really wanted some performance for a measily $120 dollars, you could buy the 2 Flowtech cut-outs and MIL eliminators, install these cut-outs before your cats &amp; you'll see 15+ RWHP, better gas mileage and one MEAN *** sounding Mustang.</P>

youll actually lose some power. by reducing the amount of backpressure with cutouts. these are for cars that make a good bit of power. not for your typical car.

I'm NOT interested in "cutouts".</P>

This is not a racer (nor is it ever). It spends 99.9% of it's time in a garage. The other .1% of the time is spent driving around town at 35-55mph. I just want it to sound GREAT!!! I'm not worried about HP gains, I just don't want to lose power.</P>

I'm thinking that a simple muffler swap will do the trick. But I don't know where to even start when it comes to selecting a brand/model/type.</P>

Thanks again!!</P><edited><editID>jbernie3</editID><editDate>37968.0599074074</editDate></edited>

Um, obviously you have no clue WTF your talking about. Take a trip to google.com and start looking up information on cutouts. I happen to know of people that I HAVE SEEN DYNO sheets from. </P>

305TPI Iroc-z, stock motor, installed a cut-out infront of his cat, he gained 15RWHP &amp; 8RWTQ.</P>

My 88 Iroc-z 312, went from 14.9 to 14.7 with cut-out opened. </P>

With a V8, the only way you can hurt performance by losing backpressure is running open heads, you fool. Why do you think so many people would LOVE to run open headers? Idiot.</P>

I agree, if you just want sound try flowmasters, probably a 2 chamber.</P>

I prefer the sound of open headers over everything. Just my opinion though. <IMG src=smileys/smiley2.gif border="0">

did you take a look at the lower rpm where the loss of HP far out-weighs any gain made? yeah, he may have gained 15hp on his MAX hp...but it's the entire rpm band that matters.</P>
