Default Engine cleaning?

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what products or techniques they use to clean their engines on a regular basis. So far, all I've been doing is wiping down my engine with a damp cloth every time I wash the car to prevent excessive build-up. I'm trying to avoid having to steam clean or degrease my engine once or twice a year if possible.

Any other ideas? Thanks!

Brchan

Being that you have a '05 and you regularly wipe it down that should be all you need to do. But what I use is the Motorcraft engine shampoo, can pick some up at your local dealer. Just spray it on, let soak for 5-10 minutes and spray down with your hose.

ive been washing my engine every couple of weeks since i got my car and my engine is spotless. i use a special engine cleaner, and cover any electronics and the filter, and spray it down good. if you keep up on it, it will be very easy to clean, and stay very nice.

What do you have to cover when you clean the engine?

You should only have to worry about covering if you are hosing off. I have an '05 and have yet to need the garden hose. I use my air compressor to blow off any dust, then wipe anything down that I can reach (and see that needs it). I use CD2 Engine Detailer to give it that wet look. That stuff works pretty good and doesn't build up too much dirt and grime.

Sounds to me like you are already on top of it and probably won't need to worry about steam cleaning.

the way my engine cleaner says in the directions is wet cold engine, sparay cleaner on engine, let sit, and rinse off. i use plastic bags and cover the battery, filter assembley and MAF, fuse box, fuel rails, and all the little electronic stuff in the upper passengers side corner, and any other stuff that looks very vulnerable. i use my garden hose, but on a nice gental mist, not straight streem.
