Default Covering Leather

I covered the front seats to protect them from wear and tear getting in and out and the sun and other abbrassions from peoples jeans and what not. I know this will protect them short term, but will the seat covers hurt the leather long term, not being able to breathe?

The S197 mustangs are fake leather except for the center portion. I want to say the SN95 and New edge had real leather, but I could be wrong there.

But what is the point in getting leather if you are just going to cover it up?

I did some more reading around and the covers will be coming off. Turns out they dont really do much, and they can possibly damage the leather underneath. I clean and condition the seats regularly. My concern was scratching and tearing the leather, so I covered the front seats. But they do hide the leather and the covers look tacky, so theyre coming off.

I will just be more careful when moving around in the seat or getting in and out.

I use towels for the bottom of my seats, mainly to catch the sweat off my legs in the summer.
