Default BRAKE SIZE HELP

im redoing my complete brake system minus the master cylinder. i was wondering what is the size of the front and rear drums. i believe my fronts are 9x1 1/2" but on my rear they gave me two sizes 9X1 1/2" and 9X2 1/4". is there a way without taking everything apart to find out

Best way is to take a rear drum off and measure.

You are confusing.......you say you are completely overhauling the brakes, but you don't want to take everything apart? Just take both of the drums to a parts store and flop them on the counter and say "match them."

Concur, it don't make any sense to be buying parts until you have the old stuff off. You run the risk of getting the wrong stuff and that always sucks.

what you need to do is take the drums off, take them in, have them matched/measured, order what you need, and put them back on til the new stuff arrives.

Unless you live in Frostbite Falls Minn. some store around you will have the parts. They are pretty common. Either that or take and hour and jack up one side of the car and pull the wheels and drums off and measure them. That is the only way to be sure. BTY, generally speaking the fronts will be wider than the backs.

It wouldn't even take an 2 hours to take the brake drums off, run them to a parts place, get the new ones and put them on. Or, you could save yourself some money and have the old ones turned. That would mean the store would have to have a few hours to do that though. And, assuming the drums are not to grooved to turn.
