Default arizona 5.0 swap help

Hey all,
my dad and I are swapping my old straight six in my 1970 for a bigger and better engine, what im looking for is a company that sells re-built 302 long blocks. I did find this website here and i was wondering about your input, http://www.fivestarengines.com, any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
taylor

I've heard of these folks - I know noone who's bought from them, however.

650 bones for a long block ( no sure what shipping will be ) sounds almost too god to be true. Heck, it's atleast 200 bucks in parts alone. I know they do their own machine work, but they gotta pay someone to do it and build it. Either they've minimal over head, or turn a "ton" of units.

Either way, 12 month warranty says something. I'd do a little homework. See if they'll give you some contacts and get some feed back. Be sure to check the BBB to see if anyone has had any issue, etc.

Good luck.

we used to sell SBC's for 895 and SBF's for 995 with 2 piece rear main seal, or 1095 1 piece rear main seal.

Northern Auto Parts sells rebuild kits to the public for like 200 or less, machine shops buying direct from federal mogul/clevite/etc are paying even less. 90% of the cost is in the machine work - but ya wonder if they're shimming weak springs, knurling guides, welding heads, etc, etc

I agree that the parts for a business will be cheaper. Even your prices are a little more believable. 650 is pushing the bare min. for profit, IMO. Like I said, either these folks burn through these or have minimal overhead. Either way, I'd do some shopping. Just to get an idea of wtf, over?

On a side note. There's other options out there. It really depends solely on your budget and wants. 650 for a long block, or 2.5-3k for a crate motor from a reputable builder. Or, you can spend 3k or so and have a local shop build one.

Then, there's the whole, build it yourself route. Which to me, is by far the most rewarding. I know not everyone has the essentials to do such a project and that's why the crate motor folks are in business.

Anyway, good luck.

i've mentioned it before, but i'll do it again. if you have any knowledge and you think you can build one (really not that hard) paw or performance automotive warehouse sells complete long block kits where they will send you assembled heads, the block, crank, rods, everything - you pick from a few different pistons for you choice in compression, and a handfull of different cams to choose from. they are priced pretty reasonable, i remember a few years ago a 351w/427 stroker was under 3k with no core charge.
