Default Dammit!

So I've never felt good about the Mustang power steering system.

(nor have I felt good about the original manual steering system either for other reasons)

In my restoration I didn't have the budget to go with a full blown rack and pinion system. So I reluctantly sourced a used complete power system for $100. I bought rebuild parts for the control valve, cylinder, and pump, about another $100, then almost another $100 on correct Moog idler, then all the work to restore it the 40 year old system.

Now, I find out I could have bought a Borgeson integral PS box for $550! A modern box, 1 piece, no brainer.

Who wants to buy a original PS system!?

Save your money until you get a rack. Seems a waste to throw one box away for another.

in your opinion is there actually a rack that works and doesn't cost multiple grand?

Perhaps a rack is better, but I would like to hear from anyone that has used this box.

I don't think it would be a waste because I wouldn't be throwing away 1 box for another, I would be throwing away a 40 year old box, control valve, power ram, and 4 hoses for a modern, rebuilt box with 2 hoses. (They don't say what vehicle the box is from, but do say it is a modified box from a modern car)

Borgeson's system won't work with manual trans, unless you convert to manual clutch.

I repair Ford/Bendix power steering, and they are just fine when built and installed properly. The 65-82 Corvette had the exact same system, and you don't hear they had crappy steering.

I can surely install them correctly. But they still have too much play compared to any rack, and are prone to leaks.
Unisteer makes a cheap rack for manuals. But the u joint angle is pretty extreme. But I think the P/S version is like, 1500 ??

But why? Why use three parts when you can do it with one? I'm asking a serious question here, what is the advantage of using a power cylinder rather than a integral gear box? Other than a smaller gear box I mean. I'm sure there must be one other wise I don't imagine Ford or GM would have chosen that route.
