Default license plate lamps - wiring

Last thing i need to do to pass inspection and get a 69 fastback registered and titled is to get the license plate lamps wired. I have some on order (http://www.designengineering.com/pro...sp?m=sp&pid=21) that won't need to be mounted, mainly because I can't even figure out where they would go, can't find any leads, etc. I've just got all ten pounds of the factory shop manual, but the wiring portion is as clear as mud where the license plate lamps are concerned. I know i can just tap into the running lights / blinkers, but my concern there is that it's one bulb for both the blinkers and the running lights in the back, I'd rather not have one bulb or the other blinking with the blinkers. is there a better place to tie in, or am i just missing something entirely?

Mine has a black wire under the fuel filler that has a female "bullet" connector at the end. It is connected to the wire for the light. As far as I can tell, it's tapped into the left tail light. (from the factory)

mine was exactly same as stepman described. You can see the wiring harness in the left side of trunk. You should also have the hole for the light mounting on top of lis plate. Remove the plate and you should see how it mounts. PRetty straight forward.

Hmm I like the option that you found for the license plate light setx. I cannot remember if mine worked or not but since I'm having the whole car currently rewired I need to check this.

Good luck on the inspection. I know from experience sometimes they can be picky on their inspections in Texas.

I know these are not 69, but the setup was identical.

If you look below and to the right of the gas cap, you'll see the hole for the wire:

Don't forget the rubber flap, shown here. all 67-70 had a rubber flap, while the 71-72 had a plastic flap:
