My first Mustang Mystery
Ok guys concentrate on this one ... i've got a question for you that needs an answer to solve my problem
In my attachement you'll find a picture of my Autolite 2100 carb of my 1966 Mustang Coupe
Nothing special just dirty and i'm cleaning it. But the strange thing is this. When you look at the picture I marked an area with a red frame.
2 questions i have:
1) why is my fuel bowl vent open (there is a hole in it ) ? Am i missing something cause all other Autolite carbs have a closed fuel bowl vent ...
2) what is the lever used for in front of the fuel bowl vent ?
The reason why i am asking this question is because every time i "put the pedal to the metal" i notice that the top of my carb is moist with fuel and fuel comes
leaking down after a while ... something i obviously dont want.
Does anybody know the solution to my problem ? Does someone have a picture of how it should be ?
Thanks
Mike

Mike, I rebuilt my autolite 2b for a 68 mustang i'm restoring. I had the same question. I found out it is a vent. At some point there was probably a rubber cap on it. It would vent on and off as you pump the gas. It vents gas (not the liquid for though). It is not necessary. Usually found on motors w/ emissions. You may have gad a smog pump on the motor too. That too isn't necessary. 66 you don't have to worry about passing inspection probably.
If your seeing gas(liquid) come out you may need to rebuild the carb and make sure the float is working properly. Or, you could fill the hole and not even worry with it. I rebuilt my carb and the hole is left open. No problems and no worries of trash getting in it cause you have the air cleaner on it.
Good luck.

1) Where is it normally located? Is it a rubber inside the hole or at the end of the lever (stick in the red frame of my picture).
2) I ordered a rebuild kit for the Autolite 2100. Is this cap part of the standard rebuild kit ? If not, where do i find it.
Thx
Mike,
Here is a diagram of the vent value components so you can see what might be missing from your setup. Hope it helps. Good Luck!!!

i saw the diagram the other guy sent you.. i would just use the rubber piece if it is in fact in the rebuild kit. i had a fairly generic kit, but it wasn't included. i've since swithched to a new 4b carb and intake. Good luck, the clean & rebuild on the carb is pretty simple.. just take your time and soak it good.
