Default Problem with tail lights-HELP

Hoping someone can help me.
I have a 67 Coupe with all manual drums. I just installed a brake booster which allows me to use my existing brake pedal. The install was a snap--highly recommend Laurel Mountain Mustang for their booster since the non pedal replacement is a a dream. BUT--my issue is my tail lights. My lights will not come on until I fully depress the pedal. At that point I would be locking up the brakes. When the car is off and the pedal is up, I just touch the pedal and the lights come on. WHen I turn the car on and the vacuum brings the pedal lower, I have fully step on it to get the tail lights on. THis is weird and makes no sense since I dont even get the concept of how the switch for the lights work.
Can anyone help me with an idea or a source to ask on how to fix this?
I am going to get my brakes power bleed and maybe the pedal comes up alittel from where it is now and that helps the situation. I have to fix or ele someone is going to rear end me!
THanks much for any help you can give me.
