Default Brakes

I'm new to the classic car world. Just purchased a 1964 1/2 mustang convertible. There are no upgrades except alternator. The single Master cylinder drum brakes are killing my foot on long drives. I know i need to upgrade to dual master but don't know if I want to go all the way with power disc right now. Don't really want to that expense right now. Is there any suggestions on making the braking easier and better with out replacing everything.
