Default Ford rear end.

Hey guys,

The other day on my way home i came across a decent looking axle. I picked it up and put it in my jeep and brought it home. Later i found it was a ford 7.5. the tag sais it has 3.73 gears, but im not sure if the previous owner put in aftermarket gears or not.

Right now it has some road salt covering it, but i can see myself cleaning up and painting this thing to make it look nice. i took off the diff covor and all the gears are in great looking and working order.

I have no use for this myself, because my current axles in my jeep are sufficient, im wondering what i could get for this. It came from a ranger, but ive always heard owners of the fox body mystang buying old rear ends out of the rangers and installing them because of the better size/gear ratio.

here are some pics:

Im basically looking for any advice to what i should do with this axle.

thanks,
Derek

Default RE: Ford rear end.

first off rangers 7.5's are pretty much worthless you might get 50 bucks for it if its cleaned up and nice.

second gear ratio count the ring gear and then count the pinion gear divid ring gear buy pinion gear and thats your gear ratio.

third mustang owners get the left side axles out of rangers raer ends the right sid is longer and the housing won't fit in a mustang.

4th rangers have 8.8 rear ends i don't know what your rear end cam out of it could be out of a mustang.

dude if i were you i would take it back to where i found it and leave it there. unless its a 9" or a 8.8 for a mustang. don't bother with ford rear ends unless you knwo what you have.

i took everything apart today, ill probably just junk the housing and see if anyone is looking for the 3.73's or the axleshafts.
