ok this is my problem i have a 1983 mustang it has a 3.8 V6 (carb) with an automatic tranny.......i want to put a 5L V8(carb) i want to kno if its posable...will it mount up correctly? and can i use the same tranny? plz help me out guys i need the 5.0 power lol

Well in short, yeah a V8 will fit because Ford offered V8's in that year. You will have to adjust a lot of other things, like cooling system, springs, and yes transmission, but it will all work.

The cheapest way to go is to get an engine/trans from a wrecking yard.

well, you can find stock motors cheap in yards. the local junkyard here has like 15 5.0 ho of various ages. with trannys. youll prolly end up rearend swapping sooner than youd like too. bu it can be done and itll all fit. just takes time. and$$

 

but yea, if yur wanting to do it easy you can prolly find an 83 gt cheap.

It would be easier and cheaper to sell the 6er and buy the V8. But yes, it can be done.

 

I should know this but isnt an '83 a fox? If so, you can do a lot... see signature...

Another option is what I have thought about doing to a 4 eye vert (all verts either had the 3.8/auto or the 5.0) is to find a wrecked 99-04 V8 and put everything drivetrain wise (including the EFI)

 

Use a C-4 and an 8.8 rearend........
It can be done and has been done but why not just sell it and get a mid 80's GT?
