Replacing rear brakes
I have a 2001 GT and want to replace the rear brakes.I can't seem to get the pistons to go back into the callipers.I heard you have to screw them back in.Is this true and if so how?Is a special tool required? Thank's
yea you have to have a tool to do it. there may be another way though. they used a thing on mine that forced the piston back in like a vise kinda. so a C clamp might work....just an idea.
You have to remove the caliper from the bracket and buy the $12 tool to turn the piston back into the caliper. I just found this out doing my rear brakes on my 95. They are differnt than the front, you cannot compress them with a C-clamp.

I used a C clamp on the front's and they went back in .Doesn't seem to work on the back's.The back's have the emergency brake cable hooked to them and I heard they "ratchet" out. I don't know if I have to unhook the cable or what?
Yes, you have to unhook the cable to pull the caliper off the mounting bracket. Use a big pair of pliers to compress the spring and another pair of pliers to pull the cable off the caliper.
