Default Line bore?

Is there any reason to line bore an old 302? How can I check it?

Thanks!!

A line bore (or Alighn bore) is done to ensure that the crank journals all line up perfectly. Reasons to do it are if it is checked and is out of line, or you plan on putting main studs in, which actually just needs an alighn hone. On the last engine I built the alighn hone was about another $150, not cheap but when you are sinking a bunch of money into a new motor it pays in the end to do all the machine work and not take any short cuts.

Yes line boring is something that I wouldn't pass doing. An old block has "seasoned" with lots of heating and cooling cycles. This is good and by line boring and squaring the cylinders you get a block that's square and will stay that way over it's lifetime.
