I'm assuming you're talking about citys when your talking about lazers 'caused I've never seen a lazer trap anywhere (though I hear they exist). Also, if you're trained in radar I'm sure you know that most radar guns take a couple of seconds to register and they also choose which vehicle to track (not always the fastest) unless of course you are actually pointing the gun yourself (not too many cops actually like to do that thing.... what's it called..... work. The vast majority of cops leave their radar on all the time and when they actually leave it off to try and surprise you, you can usually get your spped down a signifigant amount before he registers a speed. Also with that "discretion" ticket you were talking about, I've only seen it once when the cop could prove that there was racing going on (you know 3 am on the outskirts of town where nobody is). While there is the odd time where a radar dectector won't help out at all that's less than 1% of the time. BTW speeding doesn't cause problems, it's the idiots who drive out of their ability that cause the problems (for some people that's any speed).

To sum it up, radar/lazer detctors have worked well for me and everyone I know, so don't listen to idealistic cops.

OK its not like i speed all the time and have only raced a few times, but i do believe the speed limit should be what u feel is a comfortbale speed for u. I personally think 65 on the high way is way to slow especially at night. Which is y i think that the speed limit should go up at night by at least 10-20 mph. just my $00.02. SO i probally will buy the escort for about 150 and see how it works, the main reason is that if i get 1 more my inscurane goes up and as a 18 male my plan is already 800 in 6 months so i cant afford any higher.

I'm going to have to agree with Mr. Twigbert on this one. Slow down a bit and give people a chance to see what you're driving. That's half the fun of owning a sports car. Whether you drive an old, rusted out Honda or you're driving a brand new Ferrari, if you're flying past other cars on the road and weaving in and out of traffic, you're just being an @ss. Speed limits serve a purpose.

As far as legality of radar detectors...

In Texas, it could be considered a criminal instrument because it aids you in committing the crime of speeding. However, possession of a criminal instrument is one degree lower than the crime it helps you to commit. Speeding is a class C midemeanor. There's nothing lower than a class C misdemeanor.

You could have 15 radar detectors going at once and not be cited for any of them...of course, 15 radar detectors could be considered obstruction of view and you can be cited for that.

Just use your common sense. If you enjoy the pumping adrenaline rush of high speeds, take it to the track and keep it off the public roads.

I can't speak for all states but in WI I do not have to show you anything.. I will if the driver asks just to be polite.. Fact is I am an inner city cop and if I pull you over for speeding all you have to do is be nice.. I 'hate' being a mean cop.. Be nice and you will probably get out if it.. However, not all cops see it as I do and have no problem giving tickets..

I like to think I am down to earth.. I know I speed so I like to give people a chance.. Attitude is everything..!

Valentine 1 gets you front, rear, side, up and multiples. Don't know of another detector that will do all that. Be careful traveling in states that outlaw such detectors or you could wind up losing your detector and a big fine. You don't even have to be speeding if they should spot it on your dash. By the way, the higher you mount any detector in your car, the better the range and effectiveness of the unit.

Mt Twigbert, I must admit I have the highest respect for inner city cops of all the branches out there. My brother in law is a NYS Trooper and my father in law is a retired NYS Trooper. But the ***** you need to approach the many situations you are thrown into on a daily basis as an inner city cop is unreal. Very tough job and I am glad there are people like yourself that are willing to do it. Take care.

I have used an Escort 8500 me or whatevrer it is...

Its great been with it for almost 2 years

It has saved me many many times..a miel away around a SLOW bend in road..KA band goeas off..i slow down

I was comn down Highway 50 from Sout Lake Tahoe..goin about 90ish ina 55 or 65 zone.

there are some ---somewhat-- sharp turns...

Seems to me the radar detectors have tuffer tiems the sharper the turn and higher the speed is to notofy you to slow down

So now i just slow down a bit for sharp angle tunrs..and feel bettr about the more ...lo angle bends in the road as the Passport seeems to detect those with much more reaction time

Anytime you haul *****..the reaction tiem you have is going to get smaller and smaller

As far a Lazers jammers go..pffft...I have read they are worthless....they put a lazer on you an dits the speed of light..instant..

In california LAzers are rarley used..as they are very EXPECNSIVE...i hav egotten a lazer Alert TWICE in about 2 years...On I-80 around the bay area

I would not drive again without a good detector..Even if you arent speeding..its nice to know the fuzz is up around the corner from you..

Gives you tiem to take your Margarita off your dash board...hehehehe...just kidding
