Default Vacuum source for heat/ac switch

I posted a while back that I only have air coming out of the defroster only and cannot be changed to any other location. After taking the center console and heater & a/c switch out, I believe that my problem is vacuum related. This is such a simple switch in function and design that it should probably last the lifetime of the car. I cannot see where the switch gets is vacuum from and was hoping someone can pinpoint the source for troubleshooting.

Not long ago, someone responded that they found a very small vacuum leak in a line. Anyone know where that is? There are so many lines to the dash area from the engine compartment that it is almost impossible to find the right one without some help.

My a/c and heater controls get there vacuum from a distribution block on the driverside firewall.

Default RE: Vacuum source for heat/ac switch

Thank you. What year is your car and what engine do you have? Can you describe this distribution block? Today's cars have so much crap on them that things are often difficult to find. For example, I couldn't find the fuel filter on an Acura until I bought a new one and used it to help me locate the old one.

Thanks,

Gary

95 302 It will be attached to the firewall above the master cylinder and have about 4 or 5 vacuum lines hooked to it.

Default Found my problem

Based on your comment, I found that a very tiny vacuum line had come loose from the distribution block. The line had fallen down but looked like it belonged where it was. Hooked the nipple back to the source and I now have heat to the floor and vent. Yeah!

It also cured my idle problem. I had indications of a failed Idle Air Control Valve, in that my idle would stay at 1600-1900 and then occasionally die. No more problem.

Now, all I need to do is recharge my a/c and find out why it is low.

thanks for the help.
