Default Tranny question

I am purchasing a 87 LX Hatchback with a 2.3 and 5 speed. I will eventually make it a 5.0. I was wondering if the 5 speed behing the 2.3 would work behind a 5.0 with a different bellhousing of course. I dont have a lot of experience with the 5 speeds. Both my thunderbirds are 5.0 with AOD. Thanks ahead of time for the info.

Yes, it will work but you will have to put a 4 cylinder pilot bushing it instead of an 8 cyl. It will not be as strong as a V8 t-5 but it will work

Well I may just do that for now, until I run across a good deal on a different one when more funds are available.
