Default Project Classic Mustang???

I owned a 1967 coupe in high school (worked many a summer for that car) and now want to do a project car. I want to do a 65-66 fastback body, but with all new equipment. Basically the look of the older car with todays technology-4 wheel discs, new tranny, stagger wheel/tire setup, new/rebuilt engine with mods, exhaust, etc. Being that I am only comfortable with basic car repair, where do I start. Would it be best to just drop the old body onto a new frame (what frame will fit?) and go from there? Any help is greatly appreciated.

A new frame? As in NOS (new old stock)? Or are you talking taking a new mustang unibody and grafting old school body panels on it?

If you're only comfortable with basic car repair, I would just hire someone to do it so it's done right. Or, you can take it slow over the course of many years, do it right, and have a car YOU built and know more in the end.

If it was me though.....I'd grab a new(er) stang, rip off the skin, make the suspension, brake, motor upgrades, and put the '66 fastback skin on it. But that's just me.

I like buckets overes for a daily....so if you're gonna swap skins onto a newer stang i'd just keep the interior as is.

You gotta understand dude, I'm an engine man. I could give less than a rat's *** about how the exterior looks, but as long as it's fun to drive and it doesn't hurt to sit in it, I'm game (all things considering it's a domestic).

but jeep your cars only have half an engine..j/k

I would think the '67 stang would do better as thier are tons of the 65-66 stangs......'67 fastback is a sweet car and you can give it the '05 look..just a thought

Just a crazy idea here, but the guy I sold my 1968 FB to, is interested in selling it. He used the 514 CI/ C6 setup in another car, so we have a car that was completely redone, roll cage, subframes, Art Morrison rear end with Dutchman 31 spline axles, Detroit locker, Cal tracks, new leaf springs, shackles, still has an MSD 7AL ignition...Interior was redone by me. All new Autometer stuff, custom mounted in the car...needs engine, trans and driveline.
You could look at it here: http://www.rfedd.bigstep.com/generic.html?pid=5

Has new glass, new carpet...also click on the 68 514 build up...kind of a "step by step" of all I did.
