Runs..Then Dies!!!! HELP ME!!!
Whats Going on guys?.. I'm new to this post..and I've been looking at the post here for some time now and well I need some help..I've did the search and couldn't find anythig like whats going on with my 86.. Here's whats going on..When the car is cold it will start and run fine.. but after about 1/2 hour or less it just stops and I must let it cool down for a few then it does the same thing over...
I've tryed new gas cap ...wires,cap,roter,plugs,fuel relay, but I'm at a loss here..It does hold 38lbs of fuel at the gage and there's spark after it dies..Any help you can give me will be most helpful to me and my son.. thank

RE: Runs..Then Dies!!!! HELP ME!!!
The only thing that comes to my feeble mind is the ignition coil or the control module could be about to give up and heat is causing a weak spark. The spark could fire OK outside the engine but inside a cylinder on the compression stroke the pressure is blowing the spark out.It takes more voltage to jump the gap in high pressure than it does in the low pressure outside the engine.
Ther is a spark tester that has an adjustable gap that you can use to judge spark power. It uses a chart to figure the voltage when the gap is set at a specified distance. You could do a before and after test to make a comparison.
I'm sorry but I don't know who might sell one of these but you could almost make one out of some kind of insulator for a base and a couple of long bolts for the adjustable gap screws.Maybe J.C.Whitney,they have some useful obscure tools???

RE: Runs..Then Dies!!!! HELP ME!!!
definatly heat related
what you need to do is diagnose the problem befor you start swaping parts first off get the car warm so that it dies and then go to checking to see if it has fuel preasuer, spark ect.
once you find the reason that ist not running then you can further diagnose the probem it could be some thing as simple as chopper said a bad coil that won't allow spark or somthing like a bad sensor.
