Run as much fuel out as you can before you start the job, that makes the work a lot easier.Basic tools are all you really need,a floor jack really helps when reinstalling the tank.
FORD,,,,NOW HEAR THIS.Cut a hole in the body above the fuel pump so we don't have to drop the d#*n tank to fix these things!!!![:@]

tried that,it started pretty quick...
If it is the fuel pump, has anyone here replaced a fuel pump? how hard is it to do yourself and can it be done without any special equipment that authorized mechanics have?
thanks for all the help

Try this. Before you start the car, prime the pump a few times. Key on, key off. 2-3 times. Then start it. If it fires right up, it's most likely the pump. Very rare do the injectors leak down. They do, but it's rare.

RE: Problem starting the car
I had a problem like this once. You may not have to change the pump if you don't have the money. When you drop the tank, check the sock first. If its dirty, it will cause the same problem. I would replace the pump anyways since I was already in there, but that's just me. To drop the tank, it is two bolts holding the straps. Place a jack under the tank and lower it down slowly. You will need a set of fuel line tools, maybe $5-10 at the autoparts store. Disconnect the lines and electrical connection and it drops right down. Use a screw driver and a hammer to release the retaining nut around the outside of the sending unit. Remove the sending unit. Once you have this out, it is very self explainatory to remove the fuel pump. Only things you need to know from here are to make sure the sock/pump/sending unit are dropped directly in between the two metal half walls located at the bottom of the tank and make sure the lines CLICK when installing them back on the sending unit. This is very simple and should only take about an hour if your bolts aren't too rusted. Have a friend help with the dropping and reinstalling of the tank, it will help being your first time. I do it myself, but I have had an instance when I had 3/4 of a tank and had my wife help me install the tank. Good Luck and don't be afaid to try it yourself.

RE: Problem starting the car
Rear or front of the car? I'd check the filler tube gasket and sending unit if coming from the back. If from the front, I would check the injectors. Can you be a little more specific?
