my wifes escort took a crap. the tow truck guy said its the timing belt. how much is this gonna cost me?

Depends on if it is an "interference" motor or not.....

Most of the newer ones are not. You may wanna consider doing the water pump at the same time as well. You can expect to pay about 3 hours labor. Not a real difficult job.
