Im watching that ricer show called tricked out on diy and the guy is putting wrap on the new header to reduce heat...

It really does not give you any hp, plus the wrap voids most companies warrenties, due to the wrap causing the header to rust.

Header wrap does indeed void any warranty. The company I work for voids it because keeping all the heat in the header decarbonizes the steel tubing faster than without the wrap. The higher the exhaust temps in the tube; the faster steel tube decarbonizes. I've seen the long tube headers with fractured & blown out sections in the tubes at work & the wrap marks left on the header's people try to get our company to warranty..... It's really up to you. Yes, header wrap insulates extremely well & costs less than ceramic barrier coating or Jet Hot.

But in the long after going threw the hassle and price of an install and then a voided warrenty, ceramic coating is actually a decent deal, besides it looks better and does not fall apart like the wrap.

yeah i just got back from advanced for a battery cable and saw the header wrap, they wanted 45 bucks for one roll and it says it needs a roll for each header, considering the headers I just got are a total of $200, the wrap dosn't seem like that great of a deal anyway

thanks for the help

Another thing about the header wrap, it is my opinion on a street car that see's rain it will cause the floor boards to rust too.

The prev owner of my car had it on the collectors, I ASSume to reduce the heat on his feet or something, I don't know. Anyway, on the drivers side floor board right above the collector I had a patch of rust. Maybe coincidence but I think the wrap gets wet, then as the engine/exhaust gets hot it turns to steam, the steam hits the floorboard and creates rust. Purely my opinion.....

I wouldn't use header wrap on any car that has the potential of driving through rain. the moister will get trapped against the header and make it rust out faster than they already do. IMO header wrap is for off road vehicles

Don't use it unless you want to buy a new set of headers every year......
