Default Digital Gas Meter?

I was wondering if they make something that will actually measure how much gas you have left in gallons. I'm sick of always worrying when i have to fill up. It seems there's actually so much more gas when the low fuel light comes on but as soon as I see it i fill up. When I fill up I only put in about 13 gallons and I think the tank is 15.7 or so. Anyone know of anything or actually know when the light comes on would help out alot.

What year of stang do you have?

If it's got a digital odometer, with a calculator you can tell how much you have left... www.mustangworld.com has a little thing on how to get to the reading, and what the numbers mean.

I think 234 or something is 100% full...

On checking for myself, I found this...

FUEL Displays the code (0-255) for the fuel sender input to the HEC. The fuel gauge will display a filtered fuel level value. This filter will keep the pointer from moving suddenly or erratically.
255 open send +/- 0
232 full stop +/- 0
215 Full mark +/- 10
178 3/4 mark +/- 8
138 1/2 mark +/- 7
93 1/4 mark +/- 5
41 E mark +/- 4
54 Low Fuel (0-59)
0-18 short (0-20 max)

So you can use that to judge how much you have left, and if you are good with math you can actually use it to find out how much you have left... I'd explain the math here but it's too much to explain online... although it's just subtraction, division and multiplication.

http://www.nordskogperformance.net/p...301-dp5304.htm

its a full replacement LED gauge panel
this is straight from their site
Easy Installation.
Full LED Lighting.
0-100 PSI oil pressure gauge with sender reads in 1 lb. increment for precise readings.
50-350 degree water temperature gauge and sender.
8-18 volt voltmeter with low and high volts warning.
0-99% fuel level gauge works with existing factory ohm fuel level sender.
300 mph digital speedometer with LED bar graph, odometer with trip.
Recalls highest speed, 1/4 mile ET and 0-60 time.
Easy one button calibration for various axle ratios and tire sizes.
Can be used with existing electronic cruise control senders or use S9013 if your vehicle is not equipped with a functional cruise control sender.
0-9900 rpm digital tachometer in 100 rpm increments with LED bar graph.
Microprocessor controlled for accuracy and dependability.
Blacks out completely when powered off

There's a direct link for you, it works for me, it should work for you, be sure you're holding the trip meter reset button before you turn the key... you'll have to hold it for 3-4 seconds then the gauges will cycle and you can press the switch again to toggle through to get to fuel.

As for some of the math, 232 (Full stop, meaning the float is maxed out at the top of the tank) is full... full = 15.7 gallons. Empty is probably around 25... being that 0-20 indicates a short in the system. That should be a good start.

as nice as it would be to have digital gas/oil/temp readings, that has got to be the stupidest thing ever. when youre driving, you cant just glance at the speedo/tach and know where youre at like on a radial analog cluster... and its definitly not anything you would want if you shift (yourself) at high rpms, because you wont know when youre reaching redline because the digital numers will be rapidly changing so fast you wont be able to read it clearly.

You answered your own question. The light comes on and when you fill up you put in about 13 gals. That means you must have 2.7 gals left in the tank.
My experience says about the same thing.

when u get the digital tach your going to kill yourself. I have a HUD in the corvette but never look at it when trying to see the rpm's
as ARdoller said, your not going to be able to know where to shift with the numbers flying up so high. You best bet is to keep the stock tach and see when you need to shift because you see the redline and the pointer moving at a steady pace...
