Engine Questions
hey guys, I'm a complete nubile when it comes to engines, i'm starting to look into engines so i can swap my 289 out this winter of my 67 fastback. As of right now im looking for a 400hp daily driver engine. i also want to get the engine speed as high as 8000 rpms. does anyone know if this is possible?
once again i have no clue about engines except that i will probably need forged everything to get this set up.
any knowledge anyone can drop on me would be appreciated.
thanks alot guys
Chris

i would be having an engine custom built so the stock block is out of the question. to get high engine speed, would a smaller block be better to work with? I was think around a 302 with all forged internals and what-not.
what works better with engine speed? 302 or 351? or maybe even a 289?
Thanks for your input guys

i would be willing to spend around $10,000 on my engine. You think thats enough money? Emissions, i don't really give a hoot about. I'm driving a '67 so i don't really need to worry about it much anyways.
i think i'll try to go with a 302, this way its big enough to get some power but small enough to achieve higher engine speeds.
...but the engine swap is going to be for this winter considering my car has been out for 3 months already getting suspension, interior and transmission upgrades. i want to enjoy it this summer, not matter how slow it may be.
thanks for you help guys,
Chris

If I may ask why do you "want" 8000rpm? You make the HP you want at a lower rpm. To get reliable 8000rpm from a 302 block you are going to have to go aftermarket imo, that's alot of turns. 400HP is doable with the right combination.
best of luck

I want 8000 rpms just because its fun to be able to rev that high and listen to my car scream... just imagine what that would sound like revving out at such a high speed. plus the new tach i just put in m car goes up to 8,000rpms so i figured it would be easier to mark a redline.
If i go to a custom place like www.badasscars.com they would probably be able to give me the right combination for achieving that goal, you think?
if you know any other sites that specialize in custom engines, i would be appreciative.
again...I don't know much about engines and their components...
thank for all your help guys.

I don't think $10,000 is going to be enough money.
Ford Motorsport sell a 351W based block, empty, for about $4500. It's the best NASCAR block they have and I think it's only rated to 7500RPM.
By the time you would actually have this engine built it would probably be $30-35,000.......
