Default Hood Liner?

Hey, what real purpose does that thick liner underneath the hood serve? I've been told to take it out as it's just dead weight.

As far as I know, its just there to muffle engine noise. Thats what i've always been told at least.

if you take that out you might risk getting the paint to hot and bubbling.

I purchased an aftermarket hood and left it off. Looks much cleaner. As for heat, i would worry about the blazin' sun fading it. I have had mine like this for 3 years now, like new still

Just leave it.

The primary purpose is for an engine fire. The thought is the retainers that hold the matt on the underside of your hood will release (i.e. melt), the matt will then fall and smother the fire.
