Need Help
I want to install hood pins in my car but i have heard that if you do not do it right you can chip the paint of the hood. I drive a 2001 mustang. Any advice would be appreciated. If I am posting this in the wrong area go easy on me I am new here.
Anything body related I would put in the appearance section. First off why do you want to do hood pins? for the looks? otherwise there's not really a point unless you're getting an aftermarket lift-off hood. But anyways, yes if it's not snug and there is play between the washers and the hood then stress can cause some chips over time just from the metal flexing. I'm not a huge fan of them in the first place though.
you might be able to use a thin rubber washer under the top metal washer to keep it from being a metal to metal contact, don't know for sure, but it couldn't hurt to try if you really want the look of the pins but don't want to damage the paint. cut them just slightly smaller than the metal washer so they don't show or squeeze out any when you tighten the screws that hold the metal washers in place. an old inner tube might supply the rubber you need to make the washers.
