A/C lines 94 V6

A/C lines 94 V6
Im in the process of swapping out my v6 for a 5.0, and To do so, I need to change the AC lines for longer ones. Im not too familliar with a/c systems, and my question is, Do I have to discharge the system to disconnect the lines?, and If I do, could i just remove the whole system instead? I dont use it anyway. any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you
