Default '03 GT Tranny problem....

New top the forum but wanted to post before my Stang goes into the ford shop tonite...

I just bought this car about 3 weeks ago....it's still under ford 3/36 warranty...It's a 4.6L, 5 speed...sorry don't know the tranny code off the top of my head but I want to say it's a T6...?

I'm having a problem shifting from 1st to 2nd...It feels like the gears are still spinning. When I clutch I have to go from first to N, wait 2 secs and then go into 2nd...I'm not having any problems with 3rd to 2nd...2nd to 3rd...etc...Although, I am noticing that the sifting to other gears is starting to get a little funny....

Any tips, hints or suggestions would be appreciated so I know whether or not the dealer is trying to blow smoke up my ****...??

Starting to get alittle funny? Need to be way more descriptive than that.

You failed to mention which year car you have, but if you still have a factory warranty left, you have a 3650 Transmission. Your 1st to 2nd grind is typical, weak synchro's from the factory and Ford will replace them, some dealers do it no question and others really put up a fight. There is a TSB for this.

His title says his car is a 03 DUH. Just kidding man but seriously the tremec 3650 blows. I have already had to have mine rebuilt and I have a 04 GT.

Just got the car...but I do plan on replacing some things....tranny is one...but until then I need this fixed....can you point to the TSB you're talking about? Also, when I say funny in the shifting I mean that it seems like it is hard-shifting into the other gears. Kinda like a light "clunk" into gear...also..I swear I'm smelling burning clutch every once in a while...and it's not my driving

I have a new tk-3650 for sale if you want to buy

If I were you I would have them fix it, then I would save up the money for a TKO-600 and strap that your pony, then sell your old one on ebay or something. The tk-3650 averages $400-600 for a used one varies on milage, a new one goes for about $900-1100 on ebay and if you buy it from a store I have seen them as high as $2200 but the average I have seen at stores is $1600-1700.

Its a great transmission, the syncro's are just craptastic.

So what are the benefits of upgrading?

A transmission that can handle 600ftlb torque instead of 365, a transmission that has solid strong syncro's, a LIGHTER transmission than the TK-3650 and the gear ratio can be chosen for your type of driving. The TKO-600 is a really good T5 type transmission, probably the best bang for the buck.
