Check Engine Light
A few months back my check engine light came on so i took it to goodyear to have them check it out. They charged me 100 bucks for the inspection and ended up telling me that it was caused by me not closing my gas tank all the way. Which I still don't think that i did. So they turned it off for me and everything was good for a couple weeks till it came back on again. I'm pretty sure that it's the same problem and i don't want to take it back so i can pay another 100 bucks just to be told the same thing. So i was wondering if anybody could walk me through the steps of maual reseting the check engine light on my 1998 v6 mustang?

RE: Check Engine Light
You have options.
Option 1: Disconnect your negative battery cable for....oh I dunno, 10-30 seconds, then reconnect. This should reset things.
Option 2: Find an AutoZone. They'll scan it for free.

RE: Check Engine Light
Check your oil cap.If that is not on right or the seal on it has dirt or is damaged It can turn on the light.also check for any oil inthe engine compartment or any vacume hoses that might have cracks or poped off.If all that is ok.then yes take it some where thats honest.Goodyear is good for nothing.

RE: Check Engine Light
what was the code? It was most likely an evaporative emissions code for a large leak detected. Leaving the gas cap loose will def set the cel. If it comes back on, they will most likely scan it for free and let you know if it needs further diagnostics. But ask first so there are no surprises.
