NEED HELP FAST!! Please
i was out driving my dads 1990 911 C4S today, well by accident i downshifted and the car redlined all the way up. Could this have caused any damage to the motor because now there is a very slight clicking sound comming from the motor or exhaust.
the car is 16 years old and has 4,500 miles on it and he never drives it. this is the second time it has been out this year. could i have broken something?

You may have just temporarily floated the valves/lifters a bit. Usually if you just let the engine idle for a little bit the sound will go away if that is what happened. Those 911 engines are fairly buttet proof and should bounce back again. You can always try getting the oil changed with synthetic and hope that will find its way back through all the engine parts to kind of calm things down. You could have also foamed the hell out of the existing oil. Another good reason to have it changed. Good luck!
hey thanks man and my buddy Phillips1847 said there was a puff of black smoke that came out of the exhaust pipe.
but thanks man, like i said before he dosnt maintain his rides and i just had it out today becuse it was such a nice day. dam blondes i wasnt paying attention to what i was doin when i downshifted.
