428CJ vs 427 & Suspension Advice
I could use a little advise from those more mustang-wise than I: (I posted this thread in the Classics section as well)
Does any know the true performance differences between a 428CJ block and a 427 block (given the same top end components). I am tyring to weigh performance to price and given the unavailability and costs of 427 blocks I am considering a 428CJ, any advice???? This will be for my '67 Fastback
Also, any suggestions for suspensions to go along with the 427/428 racing engine? I've looked at Maier (as they are local to the Bay Area), but am very interested in seeing what other people have done with Total Control, etc.
Any Recommendations for Brake configuration and manufacturers?
All suggestions are appreciated!
Best,
Derek

The 427 and 428 both use the same block with different bores. The only differences for the 427 are... it has a lot bigger bore, and i believe there are some oil restrictor plugs in some of the block, although i'm not sure.
Any FE block can be made into a 428 without risking boring through the cylinder walls.
Any FE block can be made into a 427 if you sleeve the cylinders.
Both will probably be comparable in power output, although there will be some differences again...
The 428 will be a low end torque monster compared to the 427, but your 427 will most likely produce more horsepower, especially when given consideration as to cylinder heads and intake, simply due to the fact that it will be able to rev higher
