Have a rear end Question
Ive gotta get my rear end rebuilt, I am getting price qoutes before I take it in the shop, So far I can get a complete rebuild for $950 cash no taxes, Now I need some info, Ive got 83 stang 3.8L limited slip rear end, I am not sure if its 7.7 or 8.8 rear end, I guess I would have to meassure each end from right to left housing before the drums?

RE: Have a rear end Question
if its in a v6 its a 7.7, and probably not limited slip. go to the junk yard and buy a 8.8 for 500, and you will have limited slip, a better rear end, and wont need to pay 1000 to have yours rebuilt

RE: Have a rear end Question
Also check out about drivelines too.. Because Im not sure if your driveline will match up with a 8.8 so ask around, but still go to a junk yard and you can find all these for a lot cheaper than a rebuild

RE: Have a rear end Question
I am 100% sure my rear end is limited slip its not the orginal rear end for this car, it outta of an 82 mustang GT, Ive noticed I got a little play in the rear gears, I am assuming I got a spider gear broken a tooth, or shimm is needing to be added

RE: Have a rear end Question
even if it is an 8.8 rear, that price for a rebuild sounds too high to me. i bought new gears and a new Auburn posi and a complete bearing and installation kit for mine and it was installed for only $300 in labor. the parts totaled about $450 or so if memory serves me correctly.
BTW, the measurement on a rear end is the diameter of the ring gear, not the measurement flange to flange on the axle itself. also look on the rear end housing bolts for a metal tag which identifies the rear end and gears. if it is still on yours, you can take it to a Ford dealer shop and they can tell you exactly what rear you have and what's in it too!

RE: Have a rear end Question
Yes thats true, But when you live up here in Canada and you get a sales taxes of 14.5% it would cost more for these parts, There is times I wish Canadian dollar was at PAR, I would get my parts in the US.
