Knockin
Hey all,
Some other peeps have been saying that this noise could be an exhaust leak. Its coming from the passengers side where some A/C condensation can cause a rusting and leaking of the manifold.
If this is an exhaust leak, will fixing the problem bring back some power or be better for the car?? It does seem to be losing some power. Also if this is a design flaw, will the dealership fix the problem for cheaper or for free??
Thanks!!
you read my mind. my 99 v6 has an exhaust leak, and it makes the same sounds. let the engine run and turn on the ac, pop the hood and listen. when the condenser kicks in the sound ought to get louder. if it is an exhaust leak though you should be able to tell...its a rather distinct sound...i.e. your car sounds like crap when you punch it
take it to a mechanic and have them fog it. thats your lowest cost option to begin with. if that turns out to be a dead end look in to replacing the pistons...though i checked on pricing that and to get it done right, depending on the severity of the damage you could be looking at 3k+ (new block, pistons, rods, and all peripherals i.e. water pump etc.) the peripherals, at least in my case, would be replaced to guarantee the work...something you definitely want your mechanic to do
like i said get it fogged and go from there.
