Default dyno costs on average ?

In a bit here i'm gonna have to go take my car to get it tuned. Whats the average cost of a dyno tune ? I'm not too sure how many runs it will take to tune it properly. Do they charge you per run, or hourly ?
thanks

sometimes it is a set fee because it does take more runs. sometimes they charge by the tune also. most tuners have different prices and none are cheap.[sm=pimp.gif]

On average I've spent 400 a pop. I expect my next trip to be a lil more though[:@]

i'd like to learn how they do it and learn how to do it myself...

now.... how do they tune it? Do they use your handheld tuner or do they have some advanced software that they hook your car up to via computer??

The hand helds are not going to allow the kinds of changes that a a dyno tune will make, generally they use a lap top with the software on it and it plugs into the OBD II port. That and without a dyno and a wideband o2 sensor you won't be able to get accurite enough feed back to do a proper tune. A dyno tune will run anywhere from $300-500 depending on your area and the expertise of the person doing the work. That is a good chunk of change but keep in mind the tuner might take 3-4 hours and the shop needs to pay for that $50,000+ dyno.

My car is mostly stock right now, just a K&N filter, & probably gonna stay that way for a little while longer.. would I be wasting my time/money to have a dyno tune on it now? Especially if I DON'T want to start using premium gas because it's so expensive now!
