Rear axle replacement

I have to replace a rear axle shaft in my 89 Mustang GT. How do I find out if its a 8.8" or 7.5" housing and if its a 31 or 28 spline?

If its stock it's 8.8, 28 spline...

all GTs past 87(?) have an 8.8, stock is 28 spline but it could be a 31 if one of the previous owners upgraded it
