not another gear question
hello everyone, i bought my first stang last week and loving it. it seems as soon as the dealer handed me the key i handed the 16 year old kid 18 bucks so i could check out my et. i guess my times were avg. for a newb i ran a 14.50 at 95.77mph.my 60 foot was 2.2 i know i know the car runs 13.80 stock but it has 19 inch tsw's whitch is slowing me down. but im not the pro driver pulling those kind of times.all in all i need to slip that clutch better.heres the plan i bought 4.10s and explained to the installer i plan to slap a vortec sq on it very soon and his input was that 3.73s would work much better with the blower. any advise would be great basically i want to run low low 12s and if i can achive this with that set up and a few other bolt ons thats fine. the life of this car is very important to me. anyone with past experience please reply
If these guys have 1st hand experience w/ boost, then, by all means take their advice. I've always heard that higher gears like 3.27's or 3.55's are better for boost b/c the s/c or turbo likes more load on the engine.
I've never driven a S/C stang before So I really couldn't tell you. But I threw some 4:10"s in my Auto and it really woke the car up. The thing with gears is if you are not making enough HP/TQ gears really won't help you. I have an 02 Dodge Dakota 3.9 V6 that I have invested about 2,000 in mods and I threw 4:10's in her, I went up from 3:55's and you can barely feel a difference..So if your car is not making power you really wont be happy,,,,Save your money, get your S/C and then get your gears...A S/C is the best mod for your car in making HP/TQ so do that first if that is your plan..Don't waste your money on silly bolt ons for right now even though it is tempting...Just save all your money and in a few months or even a year you can get what you really want and go from there...Start with the motor first...That is my biggest regret on my mustang is buying these silly little better power mods and wishing I would have saved the 1200 i've invested in my Stang so far and just bough a KB 1.7 S/C.......Save and Save and Save...That is just my advice or better yet my .02....

unless your getting a KB blower, go with 4.10's.

no doubt about it, the taller the rear diff the more force you are putting to the tire in every gear. just plain physics.
with 4.10 and s/c traction will become an issue real quick. if you go with that combo i'd recommend some big sticky DRs. Otherwise all that power will end up in wheel spin.
