i got ya, i am betting on a wet coil/plug or possibly the maf, still havent heard back from the owner as to whether the filter was wet or the top of the valve covers

Just for ****s and giggles, I'd change the oil too. I doubt anything happened, but why not? If you notice that there was some water in the oil, you might throw some new plugs in too.

by the time i got to read this, the inside of the hood was already dried out, so i couldn't tell if there was water on the plugs or coil. i still havn't driven the car but i'm going to later to see how she runs. I'll get back to you in an hour or 2. Thanks for all the help.

drove it today.. everything feels to have returned to normal. I got lucky. Oil looks pretty beat so im going to change it, but i can't tell if theres water in it.

i took my ranger through some big mud puddles and suck up a little water, it was running pretty ****ty and had the check engine light on. By the next day it was fine and the check engine light went away. Something was just wet but once it dries off its fine.
