sorry guys im stupid....but uhh i knwo my 4.6L takes 6 quarts and a 5.0 takes 5....y is this? and hwo do i fidn out ghow much other cars take without liek readign it on the car? my mom has a 4.0L V6 explorer how much does that take

 

The 4.0 takes 5 quarts. I have never put 6 qt's in a 4.6. They hold 5.

 

My 04 takes 6.5 quarts to fill.

 

what could happen if u put too much in like 1/2 qt

 

only 1/2 quart shouldnt be that big of a deal

The size of the oil pan is mostly the determining factor for oil capacity in a vehicle. The owner's manual will tell you fluid capacities or you could probably find them online (google).

 

My 99 took 5.5 qt. to bring up to full on the dip stick.I figure on running 10w30 in the summer and 5w30 in colder months......Gary
