Default Fumes

Ok folks. I have gas fumes coming from the motor area. This is unburnt gas, fresh gas fumes. You smell it the worst when you have the HVAC going. I have no gas leaks, not nothing of that type. Nothing on motor, noting under car anywhere. Is there a canister somewhere that vents or the like that needs to be replaced??

Odds are the fuel vacuum control solinoid(might not be the proper term), mounted right above the charcoal canister, that has failed. It if does not open when the car is shut off like it should; it does not allow excess fuel to return to the fuel tank. The cannister itself could be bad; I'd inspect it for damage due to possible debris being kicked up from the road. You should pull KOEO codes; there is a code for that specific solinoid not functioning....IMHO

Lower front, passenger side, attached to the frame rail. If you have either a Chilton's or Hayes repair manual from a local parts store; you can see drawings of it. It'll show the solinoid, line routing, etc. The manual will pay for itself very quickly IMHO.....
