engine rebuild

How much does an engine rebuild usually run? Looking to do it to a 4.6L. Would it be better to just buy a rebuilt engine? Where do you find those?

I ended up spending about 4K on my 5.0 when my old engine blew.

On my 95 v6 it was $1500. Im also wondering about the 4.6. I have a 2000 and hiting the high miles so im starting to save to get it redone. But dont know how much thats going to be.
