'00 Ford Focus - A/C Slowing Acceleration
My dad has a 2000 Ford Focus and it has a bit of a hinderance. When the A/C is on, the car is very slow to accelerate. Not necessarilly 'bogging down', but it accelerates very, very slowly. Anyone know what the problem could be?
On most small displacement cars the A/C cuts out the compressor under WOT conditions to aid acceleration. You can tell if this is happening or not by mashing the gas and determining whether there is cold air still coming out of the air vents.
When I owned a small "econo" car that didn't have a lot of power, I'd turn the
A/C off when accelerating from a light or going up a hill.
Just have your dad do that when he needs to accelerate a bit quicker.
Turning off the A/C for 10 seconds or so while you get up to speed, it will still
blow relatively cold air during that time and by the time the air starts to get
warm, you'll be up to speed and can turn the A/C back on.
It'll save him a bit of gas that way too as the engine won't work as
hard accelerating while the A/C is on.
