Default Electric fan recommendations?

Anybody out there have any electric fan manufacturer/type recommendations? I've looked at everything from Mr. Gasket to Perma-Cool to Flex-a-lite. They're priced anywhere from $60 to $500. I just need something to keep my '67 289 from running hot at low speeds and idle (see my earlier post: "Stuck in traffic" https://mustangforums.com/tm.asp?m=138828 ). Right now I'm leaning toward the Perma-cool 18" diameter fan, if only because of its relative affordabilty and large dia/CFM.
Will I need to make any upgrades to my electrical system? How important is RPMs and compared with CFMs? Pusher-type or puller? Any help would be greatly appreciated! I have zero experience with electrical fans...
Thanks!

I think any good electric fan should do the trick for ya, I have the same problem with my 83 stang, Ive got a new 4 core rad, New hoses etc. It climbs a little hot, I had to get a new fan, Now she stays nice cool, at idle she got really warm quick before, With the new fan its all good

you can go a few different ways.. first i would go with a puller type, on the back of the radiator, a pusher would be good for a fan on a trans cooler. dual fans will benefit you the most and as far as upgrading the electrical you shouldnt have to. you can also hook them up to turn on when the thermostat opens at a certain degree or just do a toggle switch. i like the toggle mainly because of use at the track, you can cool for a little longer with the motor off.

I'd kinda like to get a flex-a-lite replacement fan, anyone used those?

Hey, Vert: Are you talking about the Flex-a-lite fan that simply replaces your stock steel fan (as opposed to a full electric fan set-up)? Because I was thinking about trying that first, just to see if it helped at all. Maybe add a shroud and a new flex fan. Maybe a 180 degree t-stat (got a 160 now). That would be a lot more affordable thana full electric set up, and if it still didn't keep it cool enough, I wouldn't be out too much cash.

Dont know about the electric fan thing. My last mustang I had (88 GT) with a few mods I had a dual electric fan, & it sucked @ interstate driving. it was alright normal driving though. My engine temp kept climbing the farther I went. After it got to 260 degrees, I pulled over @ a gas station, popped the hood & let the car idle to cool it. This was with good coolant too. So I wouldnt sell the old setup until you're sure it works good.

Talked to my dad tonight about it and he never actually got one, he had just been thinking about it. So no input from him.
