Default axle help...

Will someone in the know please try to help me with this? I have a 93 Fox-converted to 5 lugs. I'm having rear clearance issues, I think because the rear end has SVO axles -which I now know are 1.25 inches longer than stock. I have read that sn95 axles are only .75 inches longer than stock, and since I have the 36mm offset 17x9's, I think these may be what I need. My ? is this: Can I use different axles in the same housing? Does the housing determine the width or is there "room" to alter the width with shorter axles. I believe that the 3rd member is from a turbo coupe with SVO axles. The brake setup (calipers and rotors) is from the turbo coupe. If I can and do change to sn95 axles, will the current brake setup still work? Please help if you can-this thing is driving me nuts!

Default RE: axle help...

the housing determines the length of the axles and the number of splines in the differential determines the number of splines on the axles in order for them to fit the differential. Assuming you still have C-clips, the axle length must be correct for the rear you have or they wouldn't fit in the axle tube correctly. I suggest you call the Ford tech line at 586-468-1356 and see what they say about the axles and clearance issues.
