Default Interior Prep Work Question

Hewwo, all. I am stripping the interior of my '93 LX Slickback, Slickback and Notchback are the same thing, right?, and I found this extra hard glued thick fabric stuff on the floors. I assume they are the heat shielding and sound deadener materials. They are very hard to the touch and are painted white, the same as the rest of the car. I need to remove this stuff. Does anyone know the best way to do this in your own driveway? I thought of a powered wire brush, but being a threaded fabric, I figured it would clog the brush quite fast. Any info on this would be appreciated. Oh yeah. I want to try my best to preserve the paint underneath, if there is any, or keep from denting/damaging the metal underneath. Thanks much.

Grip it & rip it up. On a semi cool day; that painted thin tar layer\pad is hard & lifts pretty easily...

Thanks, Anthonydalrymple, for replying with something useful. I didn't know what that mat was or how it was fasted down. I will try to rip it up tomorrow and see how that goes. You think a solvent exists to aid loosing that thing up?
