Windshield Pillar Needs Repair
I don't know if this is going to make any sense. I am venting and I do not know the correct terminology on various car parts of my convertible. So here goes. The pillar on the passenger side of my windshield has started to separate from the body of the car. I can tell because it's separating from the 1/4" weather stripping on the top of the windshield. I am concerned about this because of the South's humidity and we are expecting a lot of rain in the coming days so I am trying to prevent a rust situation down the road.
I took it to one body shop and they had no clue how to fix it. I took it to the local Ford dealership to look at it because I assumed they were the experts on their cars. They said they had a 45 minute wait so I went to another body shop. They said come back in an hour because they didn't have anybody in the shop at the moment. Went back to Ford and let them write up a work order for it to be inspected. I figured it would be about a 5-10 minute assessment.
As I was waiting for my car to be inspected, I noticed the tech was looking and working on the driver's side. I am thinking why is he doing that? That side is perfect. I was thinking they knew what they are doing and went to the waiting room. I got a little impatient from waiting in the service department's waiting room because it should only take 5 minutes to figure out what the problem was and left the room. My car was then out in the parking lot and the tech is still working on it. I go over there to see the what the diagnosis was. He said there are no clips and the only thing he can suggest is to use some type of adhesive. DUH! I figured that out myself. Anyway, I am looking at the driver's side and noticed that side is now open as well. I asked him why he worked on that side. His reply was that it was noted on the work order to do so. Oh I was sooo pissed. The customer service guy wrote up the work order incorrectly. Now I have two pillars with the same problem. Nobody had a clue how to fix it but was willing to charge me $120 to put in some stupid glue. I told them I would talk to my husband about it and get back to them. By the time I reached my car, I was so angry because they made the situation worse. I got a copy of the original handwritten work order showing the error and a copy of the cost to "fix" it.
I then went to the 2nd body shop and they said the pillars do have a clip and they also do need some adhesive. Guess how much the cost to repair both sides? $40. I told them I would return in the morning.
Now after all that, is there a website that can give me details on how the body of a mustang is put together? This is not the first time I have had to have some type of body clips replaced on my vehicle and probably won't be my last either.
I am also wondering if stress caused this from latching and unlatching the convertible top? The top was replaced in June this year.
When my car is all repaired, I am going to pay a visit to the service manager of my local Ford dealer and let him know about the incompetence of his staff. I don't give a crap that the guy who wrote up the work order is new either. [:@]
