Default A/C Not Working

In June my A/C went out so we just recharged it. Today I picked up my car from an auto body repair and it's not working.

Now I am wondering if 1 1/4 cans was enough to recharge it or do I have a leak in the system. How can I check it to see if there is a leak? If no leak, what else can I do to locate the problem?

Thanks.

Unless you have all the gage's and tools, best bet is to take it to a shop.

If the compressor doesn't kick in, that can be a sign that the refrigerant charge is too low,,

I just replaced the condenser on my daqughter's
sATURN. I would recommend a $5 AC pressure
"tire checker". Run the system and insure the
compressor is running not just the clutch turning.
Get the pencil on the low side, smaller and read.
If 0 your freon leaked out. You have a major leak.
If reading less than 23 you are low 1 can of 134A.
or more. 23 to 45 you are probably good on freon.

I just purged the system for 1 hour of vacuum to make
sure the moisture was low. Then added 2 ox of oil (for
condenser replacement), then connected to a can of 134A.
As it went in I started the car and turned on AC. I noticed the
compressor clicked on (good sign) and emersed lower
2/3 of can in warm water till empty (warm).
I read the pencil and was 23 so I added 1 final can, the same
way for a total of about 24 oz. Read the pencil again was
just above 23 so I stopped. Ice cold air was comming out.

A simple and inexpensive repais ($158 condenser) (@$20
in gas)

I am a woman so this is all over my head. I have to break out the Haynes manual to figure out what the heck you are talking about. Clutch? My car is AT.

The manual says to look for a leak first. I am surprised no one recommended adding a refrigerant with a dye in it. When we recharged the a/c in June, it was cold for a while but I don't think it was as cold as it could have been.

I'll have to show my husband what was posted above and see if he is willing to undertake the job. If not I'll have to take it in. ARRRGGGHHH! $$$

It's a convertible. Do I really need A/C? LOL!!!

did u check the cable that plugs in under the left side of the compressor? . Cuz I had a similar problem and my was blowing hot air until I've spotted that the cable was unplugged! OR it might bee that u have a bad sensor!

IF i'm not mistaken...won't your compressor cycle on and off every minute or two if your low or out of freon. This is what I was told by the air conditioning co. I work for. If it continues cycling for a period of time, you will have to end up replacing the compressor..and thats where major $$ comes in. I was wondering about my air conditioner also...but with the high heat and humidy we've had, I believe thats why mine feels warmer than usual. Have it checked before you run it to much...hopefully you can avoid higher cost repairs.

Yeah thats true . It shuts off and on it doesnt have enough freon is in a system and it only spins when A/C is on. Why buy a new compressor? If compressor is a problem you could get it rebuild. I got mine done for 160 and it looks and performs like brand new!
