Default Timing adjustment

Is it a backyard upgrade to put on like a steeda timing adjuster? How hard is it to adjust the timing, and how much should i do it. I hear this is an easy to gain a few HP without doing anything drastic.

nope... depending on the year. If you have a 2002 or better then you dont need to exceed 13 degrees. If its a 2001 then its safe to go up to 15 or 16 degrees.

Yea something like that (what jdaniel said). Best thing to do is to have a full tank of the gas you want to be running (the higher octane the more you can bump timing). Then set the timing to where it barely starts to ping under a heavy load (like full throttle 3rd gear), then back it off just a tad till it stops. Whatever it's at thats where you wanna be.

you gotta have a timing light and just hook it up to your battery, unhook your spout connector by your air filter box (I think on your car thats where it is), and point it at the pointer above your harmonic balancer and read of the degrees its showing. That's your initial timing, which is 10* stock. Most people run best with premium gas at 14*

to explain how this works, the timing light is like a strobe light tht only flashes at the point the car is timed to so when the light flashes, it will show you the number that the timing is set to. man them cars are tricky little buggers
