Default starting problems

I recently replaced the wiring harness and ignition switch for various reasons and for some reason I am having some problems starting it. Most of the time it will start right up (although the last few times it hasnt even made a sound) but sometimes it wont, and also I have to let it sit for 10-20 minutes at least after driving it or it wont start up again. What do you guys think it is? I can get around it by using pliers on the solenoid..but my dad doesnt think the solenoid is the problem I need some advice.
