Default Timing, Mods, & Year

Bleh not too sure on how far I should go with my timing. So I was just wondering how far some of you were going with the mods and year of your car.
Just so I can get a better idea as to how far I should go with what octane.

I'll go first to get it started off, but I know I prolly should go higher/lower than what it already is.

Current mods:
[ul][*] 4.10 Gears[*] Ford B303 Cam:
. 397-M-6250-B303 Duration': 224°/224° @ .050'
. Lift: .480'/.480' [*] Steeda Aluminum Underdrive Pulleys[*] Edelbrock Performer Intake(1500-6500)[*] 24# Injectors[*] Pro-M Bullet 75mm MAF for 24# Injectors[*] Accufab 70mm TB[*] Edelbrock 70mm EGR Spacer[*] Chrome Breather Valve[*] BBK Fenderwell CAI[*] BBK 1 3/4" Ceramic Coated Long Tube Headers[*] BBK 2.5" Shorty H Pipe w/ High Flow Cats[*] Flowmaster 40 Series Mufflers[*] Eibach Pro-kit Springs - Lowered 1.5"[*] Steeda Tri-Ax Short Throw Shifter[*] MSD Pro-Billet Distributor
[/ul]

*On a 92 GT running 93 Octane @ 10º timing.

Yea 14 is usually max - I've seen some 15 - really its whatever you can do the most without detonation - 12 is a good starting point like he said above. Why you running 93 with the stock timing, if you don't need it could hurt your performance

I've heard some people going up to like 20+ with a stock stang...
Also theres this one kid that says he runs his distributor turned ALL the way to his upper radiator hose, with octane booster...
that has to be like 40-50º timing

I've never heard of 20+, lol or 45-50 it shouldnt even run hehe but just because Ive never heard of it doesnt mean its not possible. I can tell you though with 20+ even if you can keep it from pinging (or really knocking with that much) your gonna be losing power over stock - as the spark is gonna start so early that instead of the combustion "just starting" before TDC, your gonna get alot of pressure built up before TDC and its gonna be working on pushing the piston back the OTHER way. 45-50 base timing is just not possible.

So set it at lets say 13 and be done with it?

Question:
Why would someone want to go the other direction towards ATDC?

no one would want to. at least I don't see how anyone would.

I always started at 14 and if it pinged just back it off alittle till it stops.

theres no such thing as setting timing to 40-50 degrees, thats impossible, if he has it turned around t hat much, he has to be a few teeth off, cause its not going to run that way
